Helping People Live the Paso Style,  Events, Wine, Food, Living                                                                   April 2007

Events:
Touring Time

April is a little quieter around Paso, a perfect time to explore new wineries and enjoy the beautiful scenery.  Almond trees are in full blossom.  Wineries are more focused on small release parties, etc. rather than the huge Zinfandel Festival.  Atlanta may have the Peach Blossoms,  but the lovely blooming Paso Almond trees with the backdrop of vineyards are beautiful.

Speaking of Zinfandel Festival
, this years event in March was a huge success.  Sold Out!  So many great Zinfandels. The overall quality of local Zinfandel continues to improve upholding the long history of Zin in Paso.

Wine Corner:  (Review of local Paso Wines)
What's in a Name?  Paso joins the Joint Declaration to Protect Wine Place & Origin.

The name Paso Robles is important to us because it's where we live.  Now the name is in good company as Paso Robles along with Sonoma, Chianti, Tokaj, Victoria and Western Australia are added recently to the already existing six names of the Joint Declaration to Protect Wine Place & Origin.  Existing members include Napa, Champagne, Porto, Jerez,  Oregon, and Washington.

Protecting a wine name usage is very important.  California has passed laws restricting the usage of the names Napa and Sonoma. The law was challenged over the Napa Creek label which previously sourced it's grapes outside of Napa.  The Supreme Court refused to hear the case.  www.winebusiness.com

Paso Style Living Real Estate: (Real Estate market conditions in Paso Wine Country)
There has been a lot of talk in the national press on Sub prime mortgages and the impacts they have on the lending marketplace.  First, what is a sub prime loan?  Almost all loans are resold via the wholesale mortgage market, most people know of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  To qualify for the wholesale market, loans must meet certain underwriting requirement, such as credit scores, LTV, etc.   These are then called prime loans.  All loans which are not prime are then sub prime.  These loans have a higher interest rate due to the higher risk to the originator.
