Upcoming Events: There are not as many tourist now, so it's a great time to get out and visit some of the new wineries or old favorites that abound. There are now more than 100 wineries in Paso Wine Country. There are many fun family events in November. Maybe not as extravagant, maybe not as prestigious, but good wholesome family fun. No one should miss the Holiday Walk and Light Downtown in Paso on November 24th. And if you are a fan of western art and craftsmanship, November 4th and 5th is the Western Art and Trappings show in Paso. Most important, this is the time to be with friends and family and give thanks. Quick Real Estate Facts: (Calif)

Wine Corner:
(A Brief
review of local Paso Wines)
This month's wine corner is more about a winery than a particular wine, Chateau Margene. I was first introduced to Chateau Margene and it's owner winemaker Mike Mooney a few years back at Vinoteca. Mike was showcasing his wines on a Wednesday evening and it gave me an opportunity to taste them for the first time. As Mike described his vineyard and winemaking philosophy it sounded a bit too much "text book" for a new winemaker. Well, certainly there was something different about Mike's philosophy, I guess he not only read the book, but he followed it. I do believe Chateau Margene is "Walking the Talk" with their wines. They are an example of what will make Paso Robles a great wine producing area. Small producers producing excellent wines and much more focused on quality than production. Chateau Margene is located in Creston, just 13 miles from either Paso or Atascadero. It's not located on either of the winery row areas of Paso, but it is certainly worth a trip to visit. |
Cooking Corner:
(Personal recipes and views on Cooking Paso Style)
The day before bring to boil
1 gallon of chicken stock, 1 cup salt, 5-7 cloves of garlic, 2 tbls of
Allspice, 1/2 cup brown sugar. Allow to cool fully. Using the Wine Barrel Smoker described in the August Newsletter, smoke the turkey until done, Internal temperture of 180 degrees. This will probably take about 6 hours for an average turkey. Turkey cooked this ways is some of the most flavorful and juciest you will ever have. Just think of how much wine you can enjoy watching it cook.
