Harvest Wine Tour
It's crush time in Paso Wine Country, which means the Annual Paso
Robles Harvest Wine Tour is just around the corner.
Crush is both a stressful and joyous time. It starts with a daily check of the
grape's chemistry, especially Brix
(sugar level). Success depends on the coordination between the winemaker and
the grower to achieve the
optimum timing for harvest. Now is the feverish balance between
fermentation, flavor extraction, pressing, then tank or barrels to complete
the fermentation. All a symphony to obtain the ultimate wine the grape
has to offer.
The Harvest
Wine Tour means a time to finally relax and enjoy. Mark your calendars
for October 20-22 and help celebrate another great harvest.
SIP: Paso Robles
Take advantage of this debut seminar, SIP, for
2006 as an introduction to the distinct and different characteristics of
Paso Robles wines. Learn how premium wines are produced--from vineyard to
glass--and why this area is quickly gaining acclaim on the national and
international wine fronts.
This convenient timing
makes it a perfect starting point for a weekend of exploration during the
Paso Robles Harvest Wine Tour. Held at the Paso Robles Inn Ballroom, cost is
$50.

Wine Corner:
(A Brief
review of local Paso Wines)
Bear Cave Cellars:
I recently had the opportunity to taste a new winery
venture called Bear Cave Cellars. Bear Cave was developed by the legal team of Kinman
and Curry of Paso Robles. They are husband and wife team and have a local law practice.
I would like to take this opportunity to plug the venue of this wine tasting,
Vinoteca Wine Bar.
Vinoteca is located on 12th street right across from the Park in downtown
Paso. They have a wide selection of wines and host "Meet the
Winemakers" every Wednesday night. A great opportunity to taste some
good wine and meet the people behind the wines
Back to Bear Cave, they were showcasing 4 of their 2004 vintage wines
this past Wednesday: Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and
Cabernet Franc. Admittedly, the Zin is a drinkable table
wine, The Syrah was very good. Good fruit, good Balance, a very good
Syrah. One that I would certainly recommend. Tasting the Cab initially
was somewhat astringent, as it as allowed to breathe it opened up and
exhibited good fruit and balance. We all have had our preferences.
The Cab Franc was good, yet I'm personally not a fan of the single
varietal of Cab Franc.
Bear Cave's tasting room and Kinman-Curry Law Offices are located above the
Chamber of Commerce on Park Street. |

Party Omelet:
This is fun and works great when
you have friends together.
Have each guest write their
name on a quart size Ziploc freezer bag with a permanent marker. Crack 2
large eggs into the bag. Shake to combine. Each guest can then put a
variety of ingredients such as cheese, ham, onion, green pepper, tomato,
mushrooms, hash browns, salsa, etc. into the bag. Shake again. Make sure
to remove the air from the bag and zip it up.
Place the bags into
rolling, boiling water for 13 minutes. You can usually cook 6-8
“bag” omelets in one large pot of water. Open the bags and omelets will
roll out easily. Be prepared for everyone to be amazed.

Style Living Real Estate:
(Real
Estate market conditions in Paso Wine Country)
The press
continues to not do any favors to Real Estate.
Headlines in Telegraph Tribune, September 26, "County Home Sales Drop a
Third". Here's my personal assessment of the Real Estate market:
Over the past few years a significant portion of real estate,
locally and nationally has been investor (speculative) purchase.
Obviously a speculative buyer is going to time the market to sell at the
peak. No one is that good, so the market is now flooded with these
properties. It's a buyers market!
