Wine Notes: (Local RE and Wine News)

McPhee's and Pinot

McPhee's in Templeton seems to have been around forever,  but every time I go I'm reminded what a great restaurant in character and food it is. We were there last week celebrating my birthday.  If there's anyone who hasn't been to McPhee's it's a must.
While at McPhee's we had an opportunity to drink one of the best Pinot's I've had, Badge - Santa Rita Hills.  Most of you have probably never heard of Badge, but there is an interesting story about this wine I must share.
I've been a big fan of good Pinot Noir long before the movie Sideways  Years ago I discovered a Sangovese from a small producer Di Bruno.  I tracked down the winery and came to find out it was produced as a side label by the winemaker at Sanford in the Santa Rita Hills near Buellton, Bruno D'Afonso. So one Sunday we go diving around Buellton trying to find Sanford.  >>

We were greeted somewhat with disdain at Sanford asking about DiBruno wines,  but we tasted their Pinot and fell in love with it.  Now back to Sideways, Sanford was the first winery visited in the movie Sideways.  Much has changed since then.  Sanford has moved to a new location and in no longer owned by Rich Sanford.  Bruno left Sanford to form his own winery in conjunction with his wife Kris Curran,  formerly winemaker for Sea Smoke one of the wines featured in the movie.  Badge is Bruno D'Afonso's  personal Pinot Noir Label.

Yellow Salsa: There are lots of fresh vegetables available as summer nears it end.  This is a color variation on an old favorite.
3 Lg Yellow Tomatoes
1 Habanera Chili
2 Yellow Chilies
1 sml Yellow Onion
1 med Yellow Bell Pepper
1 can Crushed Pineapple
1/2 Cup White Wine or Champagne

Dice, mix well together.  If you don't like it too hot only use half of the Habanera..
I found this salsa to be an excellent topping to pan seared tilapia.

Enjoy!

Paso Style Living Real Estate: (Real Estate market conditions in Paso Wine Country)
Average Selling Price,  Median Selling Price,  What do they mean and what's the real story?  Average Selling Price is the mean average of all homes sold for the time period calculated by summing the total price and dividing by the number of homes sold.  Median Selling Price is the price of the midpoint home for a time period.  This is calculated be ordering all home sales by price and determining the point where an equal number of homes sold above and below that price.  The stats are good market indicators of overall market conditions when analyzed over time.
With any statistic, it's interpretation that's crucial.  I thought it may be interesting to break the information down into more detail. Below are the
86 homes sold in the area by price range:
Price Range Homes Sold
< $300,000 18
$300,000 - $400,000 27
$400,000 - $500,000 24
> $600,000 9

This information tells us that the "Sweet Spot" for home sales this month is just below the $400,000 mark.  So what does the typical home look like in this price range.  Again looking at averages.  The average home sold in the $300-$400 Price Range was 1500 sq ft had 3 bedrooms and 2 baths.  Average time on the market was 81 days.
